How to - Change your emulsion tubes

Ok.. so I´ve changed mine today so thought about taking some pics and post here in case someone needs to do the same..

sorry if some bits will be refered to bits...as I don´t know the name of them in English..lol

So... take your tank off, airbox and carbs out.
there´s loads of tubes to disconnect and also the throttle cable, but they are easy to do, just note how they were connect before disconnect them

First thing to do is undo all the bolts on the top and bottom of the carb.
Image

then, take the top part (black) and slide the rubber area together with the needle and put it on the side.
Image

now, turn the carb around and undo the 4 bolts on the other side.
Image

take the floaters out and undo the nut on the top of the emulsion tube Image

and slide that bit out.. (lol..don´t know the name for it)
Image

push the emulsion tube down, it will slide the other way down coming out throuh the top part of the carb.
Image

take the emulsion tube out and replace with the new one and put everything back together..

hope it helps someone out there!

JP. Spot on. I did mine with the cables still attached though. Just removed the carbs from the rubber inlet adaptors and placed a rag over the inlet ports to stop any bits falling through. Plenty of room and refitting the cables looked like a nightmare.

Nice guide JP!

Doing much of the same job my selves these days, with good help from my Haynes manual.
The manual states that you should replace several of the o-rings when putting the carbs back together again. Is this just to be on the safe side, or is it something I'll later regret not doing now?
Don't really want to sit here waiting for the parts when the sun is shining.

Well, I´m no experienced mechanic, but what I do when it comes to seals and o rings is to check if they have any breaks on them...if they don´t I just use the same...

the only thing I always replace with new is engine gaskets...
even when striping and cleaning brake calipers if the seals are fine, I don´t replace them despite the fact Haynes says to do so.

once this is done do you need to rebalance the carbs?

They wear oval. Hence the fuelling goes up the stuff.

get Factory Pro emulsion tubes, not yammie ones

the TDM guys get a discount from Straightlineracing in the UK
(nb: i'm not suggesting you pretend to be a TDMer ;) )

Is it wise to order the jet-needles along with the emulsiontubes.
The might have traces of wear as well right?

i doubt it. the tubes are brass, much softer than the needles.

Thanks JP for this guide. =D> I replaced my tubes with factory pro ones last Sunday without a manual and all is well now. :D Not been out on the bike since but it starts & runs so I'm assuming it's fine ! I managed to split 1 of the tiny coolant hoses which didn't want to come off but it was long enough to trim down. The hardest part for me was re-fitting the throttle cables but I kept at it, swore a hell of a lot even by my standards & they went back eventually. :x
On re-assembly I found it best to fit the right hand inlet rubber to the engine & the left hand to the carbs so I could still access the screws to tighten them up easily. :D
