Here is a master cylinder off a 1984 Yamaha that has never had the fluid drained or replaced since it left the factory. This bike has also been in storage for the last 10 years..

I'm no expert ... but it probably needs changing ???
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

I think the last few owners actually used the reservoir to store the earwax they scooped out with their small flat blade screwdrivers.
I just wipe it down my combats, it has a decent water repellant property.

Very rare Yamaha TRUFFLES, mince...usually happens when a Yamaha is parked for some time under the boughs of an oak tree...same pot bellied pigs that the french use to keep warm at night will come accross these and freeze like a crutched spaniel, indicating the spot to harvest....yep they,re the ones..!

and I am sure that Brake fluid started off life as a mineral base also...
