If you're still using the orange stickered ECU without the original speedo you will continue to have problems.
The import model speedo has a couple of wires coming out of it that 'normal' TRX speedos don't have. The wires send a signal to the import model ECU. I believe if the signal isn't there the ECU puts the bike bike into a lower RPM safe mode.
The only solution that I know of is to replace the ECU with a non-import green sticker model, or an after-market unit like Cobba suggested.
