Chris popped in Saturday ( thanks Chris ) I started the bike up and seemed to be running a bit rough??? He gave me some base settings to try. Any way didn't really worry about it as was well behind on domestic DIY chores and had cut down a ferking great thorny bush and was dealing with the stump.

Went out for a quick spin Sunday and the bike was running like a pig, with fuel pissing out of the overflow??? wondered whether it was floats, or crap in the fuel?? Too late to worry about it so just put the bike back in the garage.

Was thinking about it in the week and using the old engineering thinking of "it was OK - now it's not - what has changed" realised the commom denominator was the overflow pipe. Disconnected the overflow pipe and the bike ran great! There is a plastic cannister fitted half way down the rubber pipe, disconnected this and it seems to be a one way valve? anyway reconnected the two halves of the hose with some pipe and the bike is running fine.

TPS adjustment not seeming to do what it should. I disconnected and reconnected the TPS with ignition switched on and the tacho continued to swing and what ever I did to the adjustment, didn't seem to make much difference. The tacho is now swinging eratically when it first starts up then will start working when it is being ridden - will have to check the resistances of the TPS as per haynes manual

Anyway the moral of this story is changing stuff is never that easy - it allways takes way more time than you ever think it should.

Got Kaylas headers the other day so might have a mess with them Saturday
Firstly, you're welcome mate - thanks for the tea!

Think i know what the problem is. It seems (from experience) that FCR's are far more sensitive to the slightest contamination in the fuel & they 'flood' easily with small particles of crap. This is probably just down to the fact that the original fuel feed lines have been disturbed & could do with changing due to ethanol degrading them slowly over time. Get yourself a length of Neoprene hose & connect it to the main inlet on the the rear of the FCR's & before connecting it back to the pump take the bowl drain bolts out which can be done without removing carbs (inspecting for little black particles of rubber - trust me - they'll be in there!) blow thru the open end of the tube till you go purple & dizzy! Compose yourself & blow again! Refit drain bolts & reconnect your new hose to the pump & i pretty much guarantee you'll be sorted!

If you want me to pop it on the bench & have a look just let me know but i'm pretty sure if you follow the above you'll be all good.

The little wedge-shaped filter screen that fits in the fuel inlet on the original carbs also fits in the FCR inlet.

It's a tighter fit but can be squeezed in there. I've done that with mine and it doesn't seem to have affected the fuel flow.
