fairing removal issues...

trying to get my fairing off but two of the captive bolts in the fairing that also hold the headlight are spinning when i try to undo the nuts.
Looks like they have been overtightened and spun in the plastic holders in the fairing and cracked the plastic.
Bit flumoxed by this one, any ideas?

can you grip the treaded bit in a pliers and then loosen the bolt with a spanner?

Once they loosen up, you should be able to just pull the fairing out without issues. The bolts will stay with the headlamp which in turn will stay attached to the fairing bracket/holder.

Or am missing something thus over simplifying things here?

Nope, the problem is the bolt heads are captive in the plastic of the fairing and then the rest of bolt is hidden by rubber gromets, headlight fixings and a long nut on the end.
My only thoughts are penetrating oil on the nut and superglue on the fairing to try to secure the bolt.

There's a flange on the threaded section where it meets the plastic of the fairing which you should JUST about be able to grab with some narrow grips. Once you manage to get it out just re-bond the insert before refitting.

Hi trixynut!

The only way is to seize the plastic bit with a combination pliers or a pipe wrench - or maybe at least a really tight cable tie - and then screwing the nut off.
If that doesn't work, don't worry: the worst thing is that the bolt comes out of the plastic bit and than you can remove the fairing and glue the bolt back in.

Once you've been successful, I recommend - as said - a really strong glue (maybe additional a cable tie around the plastic) and instead of the long nut two normal nuts - then you can use the second nut as counter nut and you do not have to tighten the bolt so/too much with just one single nut.

That is how I sorted out the problem.
