Sheered chain adjuster screw.

Fellow Trixy punters,
I've had a singularly shitty day, and now appear cap in hand asking for solid advice.

Son-in-law has the great taste to not only marry my eldest BUT also rides a Black Trx.
Whilst visiting Daughter and grand daughter I was invited to examine the rear tyre of said Black beauty as he suspected he may have a puncture.
Good news/bad news. Tyre fine, but I noticed the chain was dry,filthy and in dire need of an adjust.
Daughter checks with S-I-L and that's OK, if you want, go ahead.
So I do the required but sheered the left hand side adjuster screw. Indefensible, but for some reason it was seized TIGHT as a nun's,......well you get the idea!
Damn that's the first time ever I've broken a screw!!
Never mind, I'll just drill it and easy out it. Damn and blast, crack goes the hardest metal I've ever met!!
OK, never mind I'll just smash the easy out, out and drill the damn thing all the way out.
Did I mention these things are hard.

So now I feel like a proper boof-head, although strangely, daughter AND S-I-L are very forgiving.

How do I get this bloody thing out without destroying a perfectly serviceable swing arm.

You need the services of a welder, try to get another bolt tacked to the seized / sheared one. The heat from the welding process will very likely loosen the threaded portion seized in the swingarm.
If this doesn`t work, spark erosion would be the best way to go but you`ll need the swingarm off.
I doubt you`ll find ANY drill man enough to touch the hardened steel of the easy out that is embedded in the old bolt.
Maybe if you find a tungsten drill, but even that will struggle to touch it.

TBH you are probably as well puting a new swingarm from a bike breakers on, they are quite cheap for what they are and there seems to be plenty around ..... usually! its an easy job, and probably about the same price as the spark erosion or finding a welder / machine shop who can do it. and then its the time involved, in all cases you would need to remove the swing arm.
The other option is to give him yours and "upgrade" yours to a thunderace or yzf750, this might mean a wheel change though....

Get a new swingarm and while you're at it, fit a new chain.

Hi Just a thought, I use a masonory bit drill but you have to sharpen on a green wheel grinder then make a block to slide in the the blade, then cross drilled for the centre of adjuster, to act as a guide from memory it M8, however, you'd need 6.2 dia drill bit and then it should be able to be removed like a helicoil.

The electrolytic problems with steel through alloy and adjusters not moved nor lubricated often enough.
