clutch wont engage

ok bike been laid up for 3-4 years, new oil & filter carbs ballanced as best i could running sweet (i think).
BUT when i grab the clutch lever and knock into first it jumps forward and stalls.
have adjusted the clutch right up bit still does it, any ideas peeps?
the clutch never gave me any trouble before she was laid up for a few years.
ideas needed please otherwise i might have to pay someone to look at it at the same time as 'they' do the MOT.

Had the same problem with the trackbike sitting for a while. I just clutch started it and got it going and it worked fine from there till it sat again for quite a while once again....

Mine did this. I engaged the clutch with the brake full on and the front wheel up against a wall!!
Dunno if it was the right thing to do but it snapped it free and been fine since.
Dont blame me if it breaks something tho!

thanks for the replys.
why oh why didnt i read the haynes manual?????
i tryed the secure the clutch against the handlebar for at least 2hrs & it seems to have worked....yipeeeee.
will resecure it again for a few more hours and see if that improves it even further.

A bit of use will be the best thing for it, get the friction plates oiled up again, they stick on because the clutch plates dry up and stick together.. :?
