Bike elec problem

Rode the bike to work with no problem. When I tried to start it all was well until i pressed the starter. The neutral light went out and the bike has no elec power at all. First thought was that the battery had died so I played with all the wires and jump started the bike. I eventually got power and it started but it would not run right at all. The bike was running at 3500 revs and adjusting the throttle and choke mad no difference at all. both pipes worked. I removed the battery and starter regulator and got a lift home . Charged up the battery which seemed ok on test. the starter regulator had lots of white corrosion on it so i cleaned it up and tested the circuit which seemed ok. On return to the bike the neutral light came on but no headlight or side light, when the starter is pressed the light goes out and the bike is dead but if you leave it the neutral light faintly comes back on after a while. Any ideas on what to try next?

This sort of problem has popped up here before.
The problem was solved by replacing the battery. Its dead.

Tested the battery when it was all connected up and the volts dropped to 5v. New battery ordered. As soon as it arrives i will let you know if its up and running again. It ran all winter so the sun coming out must have frightened the old girl to death.

I think what happens is a cell dies, you can charge it up ok but when you load it the cell gives up and no go.
I have had 2 batteries in my car do the same, and more batteries than I care to remember, in my coach as well.

The new battery came yesterday so I put the acid in, followed the instructions then charged it slowly. Just fitted it and the old girl started right off the button. Many thanks for the advice as I would have started replacing the more expensive bits before finding this fault. Top Site keep up the good work. 73 Steve

Good result , as a side line to this we had a battery problem recently that tracked to a loose neg connection to the frame / motor so that is another thing to keep in mind for the future . If a few things are playing up check the negative connection to the bike

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have had a similar problem. Went to start it up yesterday and she turned over maybe 1 and a half times and she then just dropped out...no lights, no ticking (as I usually would get from a flat battery). I tried jump starting it off another battery I have here so I joined them up and tested the bike one for any residual power - NOTHING!

Went to test the battery with my multimeter, but I think I've fried that too!! Battery world will be able to check my battery for me until I get another mutimeter...correct??

A tip top battery is essential. Maybe connect the good battery up without going through the old one to see what happens ? None the less it sounds like your on the spend.
