There are breather pipes that fit to the top of the vaccum carb's that dangle down near the back wheel.
I remember Rod did a test, cleaned the carbies and placed a filter on Just 1 of these breather pipes and a couple of weeks later took the top off the carb where the large rubber diapram sits.
The one without the filter had picked up a pile of rubber and gunk from the back wheel and sucked it up into this area.
I'm sure there is a pilot jet???air?? that may live there..

Have you tried your standard clocks on?.

Not yet mate, how can that do this though ? A mate mentioned the ignition barrel caused a few problems in the past on the Trx Tdm bikes and suggested bypassing it.

Depends, she'll tick over nicely forever. From our house to conk out though I reckon 5-6 minutes.

really sounds like an issue with fuel flow. ie not enough fuel is getting through the system. This ties in with it idling fine were very little fuel is needed but cutting out shortly after there is an increase in demand for fuel.

So something like the fuel pump not working, the fuel tap, an obstruction or kink in either the fuel line or the vacuum lines to the fuel tap / pump, some dirt in the float bowls, dirt in the bottom of the tank....

I would start with the fuel tap and move through the system to the carbs

You could try leaving the choke open to see if that causes it to die sooner, but not really going to help with diagnosis.

Is there a kink in the line from the tank to the pump when you put the tank down? Would appear fine with the tank up

I had a similar issue where, because I had a longer hose allowing me lift the tank with it still connected, the hose old kink with the tank down. I took the spring that surrounded the old rear brake hose and put it on the fuel hose between the tank and fuel pump to stop it kinking

All makes sense to me, I've checked all the pipes, and you do have to watch how they fall when the tank goes down. It's something blindingly bleedin obvious. I'm gonna strip the tank and airbox off and go through it all,,,,,,,,,,,again

When i conks next time carefully lift gas cap and listen for air hissing in. Sound like breathing problem to me. Maybe you already tried this.

Pipe from petcock to vacuum pump is in a plastic wrap around protector thingymijigy. And the bugger was twisted Hence fuel ok for idle but shite for ripping. As its been demanding more fuel the twist has restricted it and its been sucking air in by the look of it. This tank has been up, off, on, up, off, on umpteen times and every time its gone back down I've made sure the pipes are ok because sometimes the main one points towards the engine and I've formed it nicely. It's always looked perfectly fine and unrestricted, but, hey ho away we go

Just had another look. You can't see the actual pipe in the plastic gizmo. I think what's happened is, someone has put a longer pipe on and its been too long and sat squashed for a bit and got creased. So even though it looks good, when it goes down with the tank its been settling in its creased position no matter how I've been dressing it up. Looking back over the, what 2 years I've had it now, its been getting worse and worse. Better get a new un on then eh

If you have an old rear brake line, the spring that goes around the line can be taken off and wrapped around that fuel line to prevent it kinking, I will put up a picture of mine to show you later today.

well done.. With the air you could see bubbling through the filter was the give away .
So it had to be from the tap to the carbies somewhere.
I had an issue when I changed the fuel cap with the tank not breathing but even with a full tank it would take about 100km before starvation.

That wire looks much better. The stuff on mine is like the tackle you put round the mass of wires round the back of a telly.
