you know I reckon young greg could be right. turns out my gearing was 16/39, so 45 was ok in top.

While riding into a strong slight RHS head wind across Dartmoor on the way to work this morning I've noticed this very same thing - surging power delivery in top gear consistent with the wind gusts at the same time - need to investigate before the winter takes hold, any further ideas on top of the existing responses greatly appreciated.

4000rpm is the clue here.... bet you have a flat spot, even a miss at higher altitudes (ie. Desert Road) at around 4000rpm. I fixed this with mine by altering the TPS slightly and enriching the idling circuit in the carbs (wind out idling screws a little). I have standard carbs. Cheers
