Excessive Tinking on Cooldown

I would START at 170 mains and work down, I reckon I`m going to find 165`s to be just about right and it`s what I`ll be aiming to use after mine is back together and dyno checked.

Thanks for your input guys. My bike has staintune exhausts, standard headers. Whether running a ramair filter or the airbox (snorkel on, no holes, K and N filter) power and running have seemed great over 4000 rpm, even shutting the throttle and slamming it back on give a huge shove when the bike is on the move...no problems holding a steady throttle, no popping on decel....just getting off the line fuelling is poor.
Yer right Cobbs...lower down it's a balancing act for sure

@ Mince - 165 mains, 2 notches richer than they come out the box should work for you as long as you're not running stock airbox (which i'm pretty sure you're not

)

Dav - you're not running the TPS mod are you? This would explain the lack of low end power?

hi Dav
have you gone over all the bolts on the exhaust?
unless the tenp gauge reads high i woulnt worry about tinking noises

The tps is on and set...though once in a while (after the bike warms up) the tacho dance begins. Maybe it is secretly on full advance after all

Will do that bagster...and you are proably right. I expect that being hypersensitive to any fuelling issues has made me hypersensitive to any odd noise coming from the bike

Just a stoooopid question, have you tried another trix with flatties? You really need to use the throttle in another way than standard carbs. I have a dyno from Yamaha (they had a free dyno day) and although i told them i had flats he slammed the throttle and then said they where installed wrong

No, I haven't tried one with flatties...I might jump on a plane and head over to your place

I'll take a peek at the plugs tomorrow (stuck at work now)

I just pulled the carbs off and they still have the stock 150 jets inplace and I'll scan the dyno report for ya. It actually has them with 1 clip leaner with the and the fuel/air reading will confirm this around 4000rpm...Thats with the bellmouths and largebore 2 into 1

Success! $\:D/$ I had a long dinner break so ripped home, checked the plugs (thanks forum for the tip to swing the radiator away) and sho nuff they were sooty after just 2 days on the bike. I thought there's no point in mucking around, backed the air screws out another full turn and we have a winner! Clean fuelling off idle right thru the range...happy happy day!

The tacho still does the dance after 10 or so mins but that's a minor issue compared to the saga of the flatslides. Thanks all for your help

Here we go 150 mains running bellmouths and when I get my verniers back from mums place I'll measure the pipes on the exhaust to give you an idea and post a pic of the exhaust
There are three readings on most one when the bike first arrived, another after camchain replacement/service and moving needle with teastrainer fitted in exhaust and the other with the restrictor inplace
