congrats on job wel done! It's a scary feeling to start the engine after a major overhaul like that. Mixed emotions of anticipation and sheer fear. I tend to double and triple-check everything, and often find reasons to postpone the inevitable But once it's up and running, wow.

May I suggest a 12 YO destilled to celebrate with? What the heck, I'll even pour one for me... Cheers!

well its been a long haul but finally the engine is back in one piece ,,, i just need a dry day to start the running in

Running in? 3 complete heat cycles on the stand and then go and and ride it - the harder the better to start with Some even suggest getting it on the dyno straight away to do this .

i will be breaking the engine in just as motoman says , i have already done one heat cycle to check for leaks ,, in the above article he suggest doing 20 miles then drop the oil and filter and re fill with 10w 40 mineral (Valvoline ) looks like like i may have a dry line so iam off to give it some ,,,wish me luck

just got back from my first run of 25 miles and drained the oil ,, as you might expect it still looked as new , but on closer inspection with a strong light it looked like metallic oil ,, very tiny particles of metal ,, so i think i will give it some more cheap 10w 40 and drain again in 50 miles ,,, this can only be from the bores and pistons as they are the only new parts ,, o and the cam chain and the oil pumps but i cant see them giving off much ,, the bike felt a lot more powerful and smoother to ride and no leaks as yet and motor is very quiet ,,,so far so good

had a run out today ,not to far as its freezing , anyway i opened it up in a high gear at full throttle for a short time and its running a bit lean on the main jet so i think i will fit the 170s in place of the 165s , i took a sample of oil after the run and there's hardly any metallic particles in there so that's good , i wasn't expecting this much of a power gain but it really is a different bike with the 878 kit ,,,,,,,now were did i put that turbo ?????

thanks , if its somewhere near 100bhp i will be happy , its not been cheap but nothing any good is ! some more running then its dyno time

You can make one out of the steel strapping that gets wrapped around pallets in you don't have a legit piston-ring compression tool as well.

Is that because it's now running at a higher compression? That looks lovely, nice work Steve

I'd hazard a guess that it's because the engine is now displacing more air.
