Poor economy

I raised the question a while back as a neighbour had replaced his vacuum type with an on off type on a Diversion with a different Yamaha tap.

My bike is still in bits but I now have a spare tap (thanks phuk) to compare to others at breakers when I'm up and running again.

Will post any results if and when.

If the OP doesnt pop one up i'll take one as soon as i figure out this "90degree clockwise" plate thing!

The other piece is simple and could perhaps be improved by cutting a very short length of metal or plastic tubing the right diametre and putting this in place of the spring/washers.

It's quite crude, but hey, it works - it would seem!

Can i just ask, before pictures become available, when the face has been rotated 90degrees, there is not enough material for a screw to go through, have you simply used the screw heads to pinch down the plate?

Yes it just pinches the plate as its only a retainer and not under any load/pressure.

Lots of Yamaha repair kits on ebay and wemoto have the same shape gasket for fixing the tap to the tank but cannot judge if they are the same size. If they are I guess the tap fits.

I bought a trx850 repair kit from wemoto (part no 7243579) and the label also gives these models so maybe these taps fit but would want to see one to compare before buying -

Yes I had noticed that myself but have not had any opportunities to make direct comparisons, the length of the fuel pick up tube and filter will be important too regarding the amount of reserve you might get.
Knowing Yamaha`s normal practice of making generic components for bikes in it`s range across the years, the bolt spacings and diameters (M6 ?) are likely to be the same too.
Conformation of being able to utilise non vacuum taps would be good to know.
Edit:

Looking at the list of bikes that fuel tap repair kits fit, it`s plain that the Japanese manufacturers have used a sub contractor to suply their fuel taps.
Again a practice followed for many of their component parts, water pump seals, alternators, regulator / rectifiers etc.
