I use a thin layer of copper spray, forbidden in SE but got a pair of cans on evilbay...dandywarhol wrote:Do you grease the new gasket or fit it dry?

Thanks for the quick replies folks. The head came off really easily after 18 years (and I know it hasn't been off before) and not much gasket residue on the surfaces - that's why I wondered if Yamaha used oil on the surfaces when it was initially fitted....................

Another question.....................
Item 6 the "Guide Stopper2" bolts onto the cam caps at the points shown. What it doesn't show is a tapped hole in the head on the other side(close to where the number 6 is) for a 6mm bolt and a hole in the "stopper" but in the 2 heads I have, neither have a bolt in the hole
anybody else come across this missing bolt?? 
Also the Stopper2 is more a tunnel than a guide in the pic, I suspect the pic is an early TDM mk1.

You use the "empty" hole when you are fitting the valve cover ( with a lot of bolts). 
It is a tunnel but on the inside is actually a guide, although it is a small one.

+ 1 to the copper spray...we use it in the auto repair to coat bare metal prior to spot or plug welding....makes a nice blue flame when lit too.....not allowed in Sweden..KW .?

Yamaha recommend a dry fit. Surfaces thoroughly clean (naturally) and degreased.
