Hi all.. I'm stripping the frame off the bike to get a crack in the subframe welded and all is going well except the Phillips head screws mounting the coils are tighter than a ducks date. Any ideas how to get them out?

WD 40, heat and patience. Get some stainless fasteners to replace what you take out and save yourself a future headache

WD40 applied for days now... Heat seems inappropriate where coils are concerned & the brackets are too flimsy to use an impact driver.. Head scratching going on here.

well you could just drill of the heads. Worst case you have to tap a larger thread or use a nut an bolt

Yes that seems like the next step.. Hopefully the coils are not threaded.

I use side cutter pliers to gip the head of the screws and turn the screw when it's dug in nice and firm.
It's never let me down yet.

You could also use a hacksaw to cut a slot across it and see if one of your big flat screw drivers can get it to turn.

Upgraded coils are pretty cheap now with a pair of dynatec DC-3's from the U.S. down to about $150 delivered.(and a simple swap) Timing , good spark and correct fuel/air keyster carb kit will give you so many gains and totally transform your TRX for under $500.

drill the screw heads off, coils are not threaded, they will pull off. Don't bother with WD40 use diesel as s penetrating fluid.

Thanks guys, will try drilling. Electrically the old beast is good so no wishes to spend on new coils. Cheers
