With the Brembos, how do you get those spring clip things from off the top of the calipers. I want to check the pads?

I tossed mine (the spring plates) in the bin years ago... But I think you remove the mounting pins and take them out with the pads. The mounting pins have a small wire clip holding them in just inside the caliper.

If You're lazy, check the pads from the front, looking alongside the disc is usually enough to give You a clue how much there's left.

Max is right, they are held in by the pins, and to take out the pins there is a small pin on the inside removed with a pair of pliers.
Best taking them out and having a good look, doesnt take long and gives peace of mind.
Had problems getting the right pads for mine, a small round file adjusted a pair I got that were for the sumitomos.

Just a quick note.

I don't know if you can get them there or not, but the "Genuine" Yamaha pads from the dealer for those seem to be the best. They are manufactured by Brembo (in fact it is stamped into the back), last forever and give very good grip without chewing up the discs. Not the cheapest around though...

Jobs done all ok. I was somewhat concerned with getting replacment pads but I will follow your suggestion Max and see what happens. The parts guy at the local Yamaha dealers on the Gold Coast is really good at finding suitable parts for these imported models
