Front Wheel draging

Post by von » Fri Oct 24, 2014 6:56 am

I have rebuilt the brakes, new seals, clean pistons. Axle was bent , fixed that.
Front wheel drags, without brakes fitted if you tighten the axle. If you back it off it
turns free , then lock the fork pinch bolt. Is this normal??
The only non genuine bit on it is the R/H spacer, homemade guestimate.
If anyone has the length of the original it would be appreciated.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thankyou.

Doesn't sound normal, no... I'd say the spacer is the issue at a guess.

Someone with their front end off might be able to give you measurement, or order the right one from Yamaha.

Bearings are shot mate.

I had exactly the same problem on the magnesium wheels when I first got them. Half of the wheel bearings where shot, and all good once I put new bearing through out both wheels.
66Nm is the torque spec for the front axle so no need to go crazy with a wrench. (120Nm rear )
I only run 33Nm with the magnesium wheel on the front (66Nm rear) as over tightening magnesium wheels is a common problem causing bearing failure and should only be tightened to half spec..
Front bearings are about $12 each from a bearing shop

Thankyou for the replies .Found the speedo drive is hitting against the wheel.
Seems like the bearing sleeve is too short??
Have also remembered , I have a fzr1000 front wheel , nothing is easy.

90560-17358 DF SPACER (3MA) x1 $21.55

Just get a new crush tube and fit new bearings and bobs your uncle.
