Am I missing an O-ring in my fuel tap?

G'day, Troops.
Today, having never touched a TRX until 7 weeks ago, I decided I would install a K&N air filter. Let me just say, there are four words that sum up why I will never (maybe) take the bloody tank off again! Spring-clips and no room!
After about 150 minutes of friggin' about, I thought I had it all ready to bolt the tank on, when I spied a gush of petrol streaming from the bottom of my fuel tap. The L-piece where the fuel hose clips onto the bottom of the tap had come adrift. Having just spent about 45 minutes getting the damned fuel hose back onto it, I was somewhat peeved. Off came the tank again.
Anyway, my question is, is that little elbow supposed to have an O-ring on it? There appears to be an indentation on it, but I just jammed it back into the fuel tap and it seemed secure.
That doesn't seem how it's supposed to connect to me. Any clues out there?
Another question... Bloody spring clips. What's the best solution out there? This is 2014, there's gotta be something better than twisted bits of wire that never seem to open far enough!
Yet another question for you good people. At the front of my air-box there's a plastic nipple that should have some sort of bracket to locate into, but I don't have one. The illustration from a manual has a circular thingy there. Can anybody advise what it is and can I get one somehow? There is just open air on my TRX.

It doesn't look like there's enough play in the fuel and vacuum hoses, but no doubt you're correct.
