Clutch switch

Hello All. I am prepping my TRX for a roadworthy and I have an issue with the clutch switch. The fault being that the bike will start wether the clutch lever is depressed, at rest, or even with the switch wires disconnected. any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers AL

and the problem is?

The TRX can be started while in neutral without needing to pull in the clutch. This is normal.
It is only if the bike is in gear that you need to pull in the clutch to start it.

There isn't a clutch switch AL..
There IS a side stand switch which will kill your engine when put into gear....with the side stand down

umm...
there is a clutch switch.
At least there is on mine and it is described in the service manual.

Thanks Dicky. As you stated, the bike will start either way in neutral, I put it in gear and it would not start until I pulled the clutch lever in. I have had the bike for about four and a half years, bought it with an expired engine, searched for years for a reasonably priced engine and now am in a position to put it on the road. The only things left to do is glue a crack in the duck tail and replace a missing screw in the fairing for the screen then time to play. Cheers

Not starting while in gear unless the clutch is pulled in is normal.
No bike I've ever ridden would start in gear unless the clutch was in, unless I'd deliberately shorted the switch
You can fine the Owners Manual in the download section here. It has a chart explaining what needs to be where to start the bike.
I don't understand what the problem is with getting a roadworthy, the bike sounds like it is behaving as it is supposed to.

What I tried to say in my reply Dicky, was that your first reply answered my question, and I just did not understand the function of said switch on the TRX. I did not try the function of the switch while in gear, only in neutral. My son has a 2012 GS500F and the clutch has to be even in neutral to start it. One of my other bikes is an 88 FJ1200 and it does not have a clutch switch. I have been riding since the age of 16 and am now 50, and this is the first bike I have owned that had a clutch switch. I do understand that there is no problem with the bike in general. The other faults listed are just the remaining faults picked up from the first inspection by the mechanic for the roadworthy. Sounds like you'll be on the road in no time.
My nephew has just bought a bike that also has to have the clutch in to start, even in neutral. Weird.
Be aware that the TRX has a very hard seat.
Traveling long distances can become quite uncomfortable, but in the twisties... grin factor eleven!

Maybe your bike has the clutch wiring shorted. Can you start it in gear with the stand up i.e kangaroo start, or have you just never realised it had a switch?
Also: bend over, this wont hurt much

Stands to reason Mechanically, ..having a clutch switch.
Especially in the likley learner type bikes ...similar to having to depress the clutch before engine start for most manual cars these days.
My REX is habitually always in neutral .
Now the thought is that I have used this switch for the last 200.000 kilometres and hasn't been cleaned.

You'll see to blade terminals up under where your clutch cable enters the lever housing Alex.
