Valve seal replacement

Post by johnaa1959 » Wed Feb 18, 2015 10:13 am

Hi anyone know best way to replace new valve seals I can’t find anything in TRX manual. Googled it, some say put seal on by tapping it with a socket others say put bolt through valve guide and pull it on, or should I just take it to local dealer and let them do it any thoughts.

I would not pass a bolt through the valve guide as there is a good chance you will nick the guide.

With the head off, and cams out, you use a valve spring compressor to remove the collets valve springs, then you and pull the valve stem seals off with a needle nose pliers

Bearing driver or a drift might do the job... I've seen it done with a socket, but that might be more a big block V8 thing...

Let us know what you find, I need to do mine too at some point.

ah ok,

Its a bit tricky, but essentially just a case of drop in the washer and then pop on the seal. If you put a decent dab of grease on the seal it helps as you can then get it to stick to something as you line it up with the guide. You just need something about the diameter of the seal to allow you to drive it home. the back of a small screwdriver would probably do it, but any road of suitable diameter

I have worked out a method of fitting new valve seals. Refit valve and oil well oil seal and slide over valve stem using the valve retainer upside down slide over valve stem fit spring and push firmly you will feel the seal click in place see photos
