R6 Radiator

Hi all,

It's been mentioned that some folks have fitted a 1999 R6 radiator to their Trex. Is it a straight fit and does it cause any problems? how much bigger is it and does it make the bike run cooler?

Top mounting points are further apart.
Your trx fan will not just bolt on as the mounting points are different.
There are no lower mounting point that the rad/fairing bracket can attach to, you need to make up something there. It's only to stop the radiator pivoting on the top mount so a U shaped bracket will do the trick as it doesn't need to be soldered to the rad tank.
There are the same width as a trx fairing and same thickness so no issues there and I really can't envisage any issues with the 6 or 8 extra bars and still well clear of the exhaust and front guard.
Need to plug an outlet but shouldn't be too hard with a little thought to fit it in on the trx.

I have one as my contingency myself and should help manage the dispersion of the extra heat that will be generated.

The other month I placed a trx radiator in a lot better condition to my original rad with very little damage and good air flow between the fins. I noticed a difference in temp management as well as the lower valued fan switch worked excellent on the stock motor.

Cheers Cobba - I will bear this in mind may fit a lower temp fan switch myself - luckily the coolant pressurising problems I had, have gone with the new copper head gasket and stag sealant, so it may be that the pattern head gasket was allowing combustion gas to pressurise the cooling system. But R6 radiators with fans seem available foe pretty reasonable prices

I did fit an R6 rad to mine and it was not that difficult.

Turned up 2 cylindrical spacers for the top and bonded L brackets onto the sides of the rad to enable me to use the original brackets to the frame.

Hoses were a bit of a faff because in/outlet diameters differ from TRX (larger). Samco offcuts did the job.

THere are some small OD tubes that need blanking and I had these welded up.

Bottom of rad just cleared the headers though.
