Nitrogen

When I got a new tyre fitted on the car last week they charged me for inflating it with nitrogen instead of regular 'free' air.
What's the advantage, and seeing as how I will be letting all the air out of my tyres and re-inflating them as part of the pre-season checks would I benefit from having them filled with nitrogen ???

Nitrogen maintains a much more consistant pressure regardless of temperature..... That's the only advantage I'm aware of.

I was thinking of filling my bike tyres with nitrous oxide, just for a laugh!!

Helium!! REALLY light and you can just take a zip when you want to crack people up at parties!!

Nitrogen molecules are bigger than air molecules so less change of the stuff getting out of the tyre.

It also keeps the tires from rotting.

Seriously though, what Honky said. But they need to be purged. Moisture is the number one cause of fluctuation in pressure.

Helium, they'd probably be flat in the morning like my kid's balloons.
