Hi all, I binned mine on a track day and smashed up the alternator cover, which filled with mud and gave the pulse generator a good knock. When I came to it, the sensor was in bits.. I have reassembled it like this but am not sure if it's correct:



Flywheel not to scale! I'm having trouble getting it to fire, seems to want to go backwards so I thought I'd check if this is right. It seemed the right way to put it together at the time though.

No one? Just tried it with a charged battery and it's still trying to go backwards, disappointing. If anyone has one sitting around, just take the clip off and it all falls to bits.. I also forgot there is a metal plate that I have put between the magnet and the bracket, so it's at the back of the sensor as such. No idea if that's the correct place for it, it could also go between the magnet and the pin.

Upon closer inspection I believe mine is missing the locating lug that goes underneath the bracket, so it's probably in slightly the wrong place. This would explain why the timing seems to be so wildly out.

Anyone got a spare pulse generator? Or know if the TDM850 stator is the same? Seems you can't just buy the pulse generator on its own and TRX items are more expensive

Also, why is there an extra bracket with this? Is the TRX setup slightly different? I don't recognise it.

Thanks for the help everyone.. On Tuesday an R6 5SL pulse generator arrived, which was similar yet different to the TRX's original item. I thought about using it with spacers but that seemed crazy, so I went to the two breakers in Leicester. One can supply me with ancient looking things on brackets, the other had nothing to offer at all. So back to Plan A.. R6 item on the left, TRX item on the right.



Epoxy covering the R6 wires in place, which I don't want. It was a shame to take the Am-Tech Dremel knock-off to it, but you have to break some eggs to make an omelette and all that..





Some surprisingly difficult and awkward soldering followed, to connect the "new" pulser to my existing wiring. It ain't pretty, not even good, but seems secure enough. I did melt the plastic housing a bit though.



Put the plastic spacers underneath (hope they don't melt!) and find some longer bolts (happened to be allen cap bolts) and there's no way in hell this contraption is going to work..



Timidly put the key in and look at the start button. Will it fire? Will it run backwards? Will it hole pistons? Does the crank even spin nicely? Pichew-pichew-pichew-pibrupbrupburblebrup-pichew-pichew-pi RA BA BA BA BA BA!





Nice. It rev'd okay to 4K, I haven't tried more because it didn't have enough oil in so can't say for sure if it has done anything to the ignition timing. Next up, steering head bearings without a centre stand

if you have problems with it I've probably got one in my box of bits but will have t have a rummage.

It shares wires with the stator so I'd need the whole lot for it to be neat again.. Thanks for the offer though, I may get back to you!

Is that your Mini in the pic?

No it's my dad's, way back in a previous life I liked cars and wanted a Mini (back when they were affordable!) he bought one and lightly did it up for me, then got bitten by the bug. I consider them a bit silly now, there are better things to splurge £4K on than a bean can on wheels with an engine from the fifties but it gets a lot of attention.

dicky - Just needs more rattles and taps added in to be properly authentic!
