Under 3k the TRX IS rough, but as it drinks you probably have worn emulsion tubes.
Common tip is to either get originals or the factory pro kit....not dynojet..

There's nothing wrong with Dynojet kits

Other than they wear much faster, according to those who tested both. I haven´t tested either though.

I had a dynojet kit fitted at c. 5,000 miles and had emulsion tube induced 'failure' at c. 25,000 miles and 2 1/2 years, which isn't too horrible. Certainly it's not that onerous to replace the tubes every couple of years, and that way you get to clean out the carb properly. I wouldn't presume to contradict people who have actually tried out all the options, but assuming my experience is typical, dynojet will probably work fine for quite a while.
Not sure who to believe as far as dynojet longevity - I had read that dynojet needle shape was to blame, but when I enquired about ordering original parts, my local Yamaha dealer disagreed with that diagnosis and said that original Mikuni are just as bad. Their mechanic blamed, if I recall, the plastic housing for the tube for not locating it properly, and therefore causing contact with the needle.
I guess the only other thing I would note for the benefit of the original poster is that a DJ stage 1 kit doesn't contain the emulsion tubes he or she needs. The DJ kit is needles, needle clips, and a choice of 3 main jets. So the OP should first go and order the tubes from the friendly neighbourhood bike shop, along with all the o-rings and gaskets needed to renew the carbs (get/see the Haynes manual for these). That way you can get your bike running properly and learn the carbs' layout before you get a jet kit. I would also replace the big plastic bracket the tube sits in while you're doing it, in case it's a contributing factor to the tube wear.

Factory Pro kit doesn't contain emulsion tubes either.
I suspect the reason being that you only replace them if they are worn.
Essentially the only differences between the factory pro and dynojet kits appears to be the needle profile, and the fact that the dynojet kit seems to contain more main-jets (Factory pro kit comes with two, one of which is the same as the original). So the dynojet kit sounds like it may be more useful.

You go for the "kit" with their nickelplated tubes.

Now for a different angle I fitted factory pro emulsion tubes with dynojet needles I've done over 10,00 miles since they were fitted she still runs perfect

I had the same symptons as steelback before I changed them rough running etc.

That will do the trick!
Higher dispersion on the fac pro also...

Could anyone give me a bit of advice? My TRX is running real rough below 3000 rpm sometimes really struggling to pull away, above 3000 rpm she seems ok, she is also drinking a lot of fuel - could she be running rich?
That's exactly what mine is doing at the moment, 3 weeks before the TRX meeting at Walcha

I was looking at getting the Factory Pro Ti 1.1 kit from Wolf Racing up in Brisbane (roughly $192.00). Above 3 -4 grand she runs perfectly. Even at the last service the Yamaha dealership said they needed changing.
