Just wondering why other brands of carby are not used, I am thinking of Dellorto's, as used on Ducati twins.
Is it really necessary to have a push pull system.

Yes....It's a safety precaution...
Due to the amount of intake vacuum it sucks the slides in up against the slide bore and there is a chance it will stick.
My old Bonneville was a terror for it as it only had a pull cable set up on the Amals.
So the push/pull cable set up is put in place to eliminate this and pull the slide back down when rolling the throttle off.

I never had that issue on my R90s BMW, it had separate Dellorto's, with only a spring return. The Ducati's seem to work on the same system ok. What would make the TRX different.

The TRX carbs are much more downdraught.
