ok.. the tr1x is basically complete.. one problem. i cant get the bastard started.

Ive done a fair few mods to the electrics, mainly wire for indicators / headlights..

i HAVE sucessfully started the bike without exhaust twice and things were ok (altho very loud).

I couldnt start it today and after closer inspection, i noticed i pinched 2 wires that went to the fuse box.. Pulled them out, put new pieces in, all works dandy.
The tail light DIDNT come on which was the biggest thing i noticed.. but the dash and indicators work fine.

I just cant think what it would be. Bike kicks over, and for a split second, it wants to hesitate and go, but it hasnt done that for a while now.. i HAVNT checked the spark plugs because they are a bitch to get to.. Im prolly just gonna pull the lead out, put in a older spark plug (hell, might buy some new ones anyway) and check with that.. If it works, i know its not that.. Thats the last thing it can be.. anyone else have ideas ?

Battery is on charge now.. When i go to kick it over, there is a large coil like block next to the battery that "clicks" fairly fast when the battery is flat, but on charge, the thing is ok.. ideas ? (its connected to the positive terminal on the battery)

That's EXACTLY what mine was like - and it was the spark plugs.

The black box that makes a clicking noise is the starter motor relay. When the battery is flat it doesnt have enough power to hold this relay closed properly when you push the start button and then the relay "chatters".

Wot he said ^^^^ Battery needs charging.

BTW, I have to say you make me laugh QT. You say you can't be bothered changing the spark plugs cos they are a bitch to get to but you are quite happy cutting a swinging arm in half, welding it back together and then polishing the arse of it

GAH you.. ok ill check the plugs and report back tomorrow.. ill need to find a place that is open sundays to get some new matching ones.. shouldnt be an issue.. just.. FFS I WANNA RIDE..

I kept charging the battery up thinking it was just a little short of kick - but as soon as the plugs were changed it was fine. Good luck!

I'll third the motion for a flat battery
If you get really desperate you can always push start it...... Probably need a big hill or a few people (victims) to push though.

OK, you've got me - what dirt versions of the TRX lump?

battery had full charge when i tried it.. almost sent it flat trying to get it going again.. im positive its not the battery.. and i had the charger connected when i tried.. to give it extra boost...

ill go out side and have a fiddle for a hr or 2 and figgure it out.. i highly doubt its the plugs.. possibly something to do with the leads going to the plugs or some other electrics.. but dont think its the actual plugs.. wait and see.

i still cant find it.. pulled tank off, air box off, played with a few things.. cant figgure it out.

From the last "wont start" thread.. it MIGHT be possible ive done somethin to the fuel line from the fuel pump.. altho i cant really be sure.. Ill get new plugs / battery tomorrow, insert, try again.. if still no go.. im just gonna take it to the shop and let em deal with it..

i cbf playing anymore.. and the fact i SUCK at electrics. quite possible i screwed somethin up.. but should be fine realistically since i did actually get a spark from a spare plug.. i DIDNT pull out the plugs as i discovered my socket didnt fit.. so ill need to get a new one. possibly the plugs that are in there are really fowled up.. maybe its why it wont fire.. cos of that..

I was thinkin that the fuel was off, or had water or somethin in it, so drained out a bit,, and still nothing.. makes me think its possible i pinched a fuel hose somewhere.. if i pull off the fuel line to the carbie, if i kick the bike over, it SHOULD pump out fuel, yes ? even on PR (prime) it should still work ? gah.. its killing me.

ya i'd like to know the answer to that too !!!! snot like the newer electric start only XT 600's / 660's whereby you can see where there used to be a position in the casing where the kickstart shaft used to protrude from, even these newer XT's can allegedly be retrofitted with a kick starter but not the XTZ750, TRX or TDM.

I think ss was just adding humour to the situation. But imagine how far you would travel if the bugger kicked back.

That makes two of us...

One thing you might want to try if you have one available (or can borrow) is to try a spare CDI. You may have damaged it somehow (did you weld on the frame with it connected?)...

I know from experience a kick-back from a DT360 (twin plug) will send a ten year old kid over the handlebars.

My bet is plugs , you have had it running so I would think electrical connections are ok . Not a good idea to start with a battery charger connected to the battery UNLESS the battery charger is DESIGNED TO ALLOW FOR STARTING CURRENTS . All the best Quan
