Hi all,
I need to replace the rear brake disc and I was looking at the factory manual. Its not very clear about these things, so I have some questions.

q1. When I remove the axle to take the rear wheel off, will I be able to re-insert the axle or will there be something else I need to do?

q2. Are there any 'consumables' involved? like seals or pins or clips?

No, no consumables involved. Very straight forward really. you will have to press the pads back a bit to get the caliper back onto the new disc (use a large screwdriver) Too easy

Buy a decent quality aftermarket unit such as Galfer, BRAKING or if you wanna go Australian, Metal Gear. You wont regret it. I've had a BRAKING Wave disc on the rear now for about 3 - 4 years and very little wear or problems.

Careful with those disc bolts though: they are made of cheese!!

Use a good fitting hex drive on a socket wrench. If you knaker them, they are a bitch to get out (hacksaw, chisel, hammer etc) but only a few £/$ each for new ones.

Loctite them when you put them back in.

Also, take the caliper off first before you take the wheel out, but don't leave it hanging by the brake line, bolt it back in position loosely once the wheels out.

if you can get hold of one ,the R1 rear disk is the same (98/2001) but do be careful with those bolts ,( i just paid £4.70 for each bolt for the front

I gave my bolts a squirt of WD-40 every day for 3 weeks before I tried to get them out. They came out no problem - Allen key and a tap with a mallet.

number 8 12-point spline tool hammers into the boltd nicely if they've rounded out.

I have a standard YzF750 rear disc in good conditon if you need one cheap, same as TRX.
