bought a nice set of race cans off Billy (thanks matey)
i cleaned up the inside of the link pipe and the outside of the header pipes
tried lubing with copper slip but didnt work, tried lubing with lots of WD40 but that didnt work either
just seem a really REALLY tight fit

anyone got any suggestions on tips for fitting them?

i gave up this evening coz it was too dark
but as they were well wedged on decided to fire her up just to see what they were like and the cat fell off the fence
i've never heard such a panty moistening deep exhaust note, they sound fecking amazing

Billy Budge's cans? I thought they were quite muted.........but then I was probably deafened from him starting the bike when my head was next to the exhaust.

Loads of WD-40 or Duck Oil on the header and inside the link pipe does it for me.

Hmmm ..

I'd try the blowtorch and ice-pack approach myself... Just book a day off work when you want to separate them again...

WD40
club hammer (use a block of wood and rags to protect the can)
heat and ice pack
club hammer
HAMMER
HAMMER
HAMMER

have you thought of the other option?

I just used to use a smidge of any old oil inside the link pipe and on the header pipe and the best way i found was to wiggle em on mate??

You have to be a little brutal with them but never had any bother with them.

Failing the wiggle method, you could try removing the can from the link pipe and knocking the link pipes on first ala phuk style - rubber mallet and rags.
Then reattach the can.

that sounds like the best method if they are that tight

fitted em last night with the aid of a rubber mallet
and then went for a ride sounds beautiful
only noticed today that they arent quite mounted level with each other
so like the roight numpty i am i gotta take one of them off and line it up

note to my elf: never ever fit things that need to line up when the bike is on the side stand
i did that with the number plate on my TDM and its still wonky

when they aint wonky anymore i'll post up some pics
i have front and rear paddock stands, but the bike isnt very stable on them, so didnt fancy hitting it with a large rubber mallet incase it fell over

bike is in for its MOT/valve clearences/service etc next week, i've asked the mechanic to be deaf that day

Re. Wonkiness... I think the phrase is "They all do that mate!"

I don't think you'll have to take the low/high pipe off again though, just loosen all the clamps, do your wiggle then tighten it all up again.. Get your mate to do the wiggling though and see what the neighbours say!

And talking of wonky pipes, noticed that the left hand side pipe sits out further from the bike than the right, this may be to miss the chain, but it don't look right and will be dealt with. Does anyone one know if any other pillion pegs fit that I can attach cans to that aren't odd widths?
