I've been thinking about doing a 2 into 1 system, either side mounted or underseat (preferable). Is ther any brands out there that have a catalogued model for the TRX850? If not, is it just a matter of equating gas flows from anothe single can bike. For example if the TRX850 flowed 100m3/min (a number purely for the example) at 9000rpm would it be a matter of picking say a 600's can that flowed a similar amount at their peak power rpm. In basic numbers at the same rpm (9000) a 600 would (i asume) flow about 70m3/min. It would need to rev to 12000 rpm (low by todays standards) to have the same gas flow. Failing all that do you just pick what fits and looks good and restrict to suit? Any thoughts or actual knowledge for the setting up? Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, only Akrapovic make a 2 into 1 system and they list a suitable can (which I understand is generic to a number of models).
You can pretty much 'bolt' any end can onto the Akra pipework with only small variation in power (maybe 2 bhp?) - I have seen Micron, Yoshi and Devil cans work on Akras. With a TRX the most benefit is to be had from the pipework and pretty much any proper race can will work well.
From experience, I can say that a Devil SB2 Ti can produces the most power I have ever seen when mated to Akra pipework - approx 1bhp through the range more than an Akra can. But that's it - 1bhp!

As Phuk said Akrapovic make a 2-1 for the TRX.
Also, Micron make one for the TDM850 which can be made to fit.

At that point I'd be interested to know whether on can get the akra downpipes only - can they be bought as spares?

Yes - if you contact your local dealer they wil be able to supply each component part seperately

Thanks for the replies guys. I am running repacked stock cans with stock pipes. I am playing with a funky idea for running around the swing arm. With the 'race' headers, how do they differ from the stockers?

Mainly bigger bore but not constant - tapered in certain places to maximise gas flow.
Also if you look at stock headers, they curve very sharply very quickly after leaving the head and that buggers up gas flow.
And lighter

You might remember i posted up photos on Dugy's site of a "Baby Face" 2 into 1 system. Japanese home market system i suspect. Ridgi had his Yoshi titanium headers blended into a 2 into 1 system by Noel at motorcycle exhaust professionals in Moss St, Slacks Creek. Very talented guy, did the spaghetti pipework on the Britten i believe so underseat pipework should be within his range of talents. Over header pipes have a 3mm larger bore than standard headers and that alone is good for 5 hp (dynoed)

I guessed at a slighter diameter increase and weight. Now that you mention, the bend it is quite sharp. Having said that you could go for a completely free flowing can and manipulate the bend for the right amount of backpressure. I imagine you would end up with a pile of useless bent pipe after that exercise though. Might have to wander over to Slack Creek and have a chat at what is possible and cost. I am still having trouble with the vibration in my bike so It might be time to do it all at once.
