Starting issues :( - please help

i think i have to replace my alternator / stator coil. issues with starting bike , had to get my brotherinlaw on the weekend to comeout to my workplace and give me a jumpstart.

he tried testing the alternators capacity for conintuing power with bike running without being not connected to my battery. didnt sound too good and would die.

he suggested i might have a alternator issue.

can some one please explain what im actual replacing,

i got a quote from my local yamaha parts dealer and he said $440 Aus

for a stator coil.

which is the part i need to order or find, stator coil or alternator,

clueless??????????

loud I will assume you know nothing about your electrical system so follow the instructions
If you know abit more than nothing than you can short cut some of the instruction
1 Take the bike battery out of the bike and put it on a battery charger over night . Red lead ( + ) and black lead ( - ) By removing the battery before you charge it you won't fu-k anything on the bike if you put the leads on wrong .
2 Find some one with a multi meter DC volts ( and who can read a meter ) . after charging the battery it should read approx 12 - 13 volts . If it is under 12 volts get another battery , if ok put back in bike . Now you have a start point to check your bikes system .
3 Switch on the bike key ( don't start the motor ) volt reading from key off to key on should drop about 1 volt because of headlight and igintion circuit , now switch on blinkers and high beam , if battery drops to 10 volts get another battery if battery ok switch off blinkers and high beam
4 Start the bike and let it come up to steady idle
check volts approx 12 to 13 volts , rev bike to approx 3000rpm and volts shound now be over 13 and close to 14 volts if you don't get 13 to 14 volts your bike is not charging we will look into the charge circuit with a ohm meter

Yes check the battery is holding the charge, my first battery died. wouldn't hold a charge, and slowly discharged itself whilst the bike was running. A new battery has got to be cheaper than a new coil.

Also check the wires going into the connector block which plugs into the regulator/rectifier, I think there are 4 wires the thicker one of the bunch tends to corrode.

This is a common yamaha problem on FZR600 and 350 ypvs.

It gives the same problem as the alternator has packing up.
