I´ve alway´s wondered what ´s the whining sound is when i drive let´s say 100kmh on forth gear...pretty low revs.
Kinda:
oua oua oua oua oua oua oua oua oua.....with a set frequency....rev up or down and it goes away...
Cheers

Usually caused by a tight spot in the final drive chain and worn out sprockets. I had the same problem many moons ago. The test is to check the chain tension with the rear wheel rotated at various points. You'll find it varies by at least 10mm.

Thanks, and by a fluke i´ve just bought me a complete drive 17/40 this time. Will fit asap and see what happens....
I could´v bet money on that the sound where from the front wheel!

I have a similar problem with mine, but it's more of a constant howl, only seems to do it within 10k's either side of 100. More so in top gear I think, but it could be that it just makes more noise in 4th and drowns it out......
Any idea's?

Ya sure it's not your wife shaking her fist as you ride off into the sunset?

Nah, this is more of a high pitched whine.... hang on, could be...... nah, don't think I'd here her over the pipes anyway!
It actually sounds a lot like a gearbox whine to me, but I could well be wrong. I know the front wheel bearings are a bit sad (already got new ones sitting here, just have to put them in), but I wouldn't think they'd make that much noise.

If it's a gearbox whine, and I'm not suggesting it is with yours, it's usually third gear which is noisy. It's quite a common occurance apparently, and mine is no different.
