Hi

The other day I ended up in a completely congested area of London with the trx (most of it is..you might say!!),anyway before I knew it the temperature gauge went up to 100 degrees...scary!
I haven't had the bike for that long, so i was wondering if this is quite common.
There is plenty of coolant into the rad, and at about 100degrees I couldn't detect the cooling fan kicking in, isn't it supposed to start working before boiling point?!!
Looking forward to hear from you doc's!
Cheers

Twisted,

The fan kicks in at around 106, from memory, as water under pressure has a higher boiling point. When the fan does kick in you'll wonder what the hell happened.

We've all wondered and then experienced this at some time.

Mate,
The fan hardly ever comes on! Use search on 'termerature' or something similar on the forum: been discussed a few times before.

.... probably get more results if you do a search for "temperature"

Also, I don't think the little numbers on that guage are very accurate...

I commute across London everyday and it runs over 100 on a regular basis, fan kicks in (106 sounds right) and out (95ish) all the time in heavy traffic. It's very quiet and doesn't noticably draw current so you wouldn't know it's on except for the temp drop and the blast of hot air on your legs.

Cools down real quick once you get moving so I wouldn't sweat it.

This is a response to an e-mail to Yamaha Australia

Operating temperature of the fan is from 105 deg +or - 3 deg down to 98 deg.
