Unbelievable....obviously she doesnt want me to sell her!

For some reason, my underseat lock didnt want to work today - I twisted, but no clicking noises and rear seat still on firm! I made the mistake of applying extra leverage with vice grips and bent (but fortunately didnt break) the key

I've straightened it, and was thinking of getting a spare cut, but not sure a replacement will make any difference.

Is there any alternative way of getting the seats off? I have fitted a Renthal rear rack which did make the rear seat attach more 'snugly', but the lock did work ok until today.

I thought about inserting a long screwdriver down the back of the rear seat and trying to prise it up, but I think the plastic tailpiece above the rear light will shatter before the lock is freed off.

Hmmm seeing as I've had a few blonde moments with the rear seat I can answer this one ..... maybe my blonde moment avatar might reappear later

The bracket under my rear seat is really bent (from a little journey down the road on its own - was fine til a bus ran over it!). I can only undo the lock if I push down and forward on the seat - that might help a bit.

I did discover that you can remove the rear seat without a key - basically (and excuse the non-technical description) .... there are two nuts holding the front of the seat to the brackets. They are about ½" in from the edges (if your pillion seat is one with the strap then they hold that to the seat too).. They're quite small - you might have just enough of a gap to squeeze a small (size 10 or 11) spanner in under the front of the seat, undo the nuts completely and the bracket should detach from the seat meaning you can wiggle the seat off.

Alternatively, I think you can get a screwdriver up under the number plate and through the holes to move the cable.




(I think I'll go lie down now - that's twice in a month I've replied to technical questions!)

As Jak said push down on the seat, I have 2 rear seats with different catches (not home made either), one of which fits a lot snugger than the other
