ignition barrel

Does anyone know much about the make up of the trx ignition barrel??
Im trying to find out if the bottom part of it(there seems to be a join approx 2-3 in down from the key slot, held on by 2 security bolts) is just solely for the steering lock mechanism?? It looks like it and its where the pin is located for the lock but i dont want to pull it apart if its not the case.
Im after relocating the ignition away from the front end and adapting a different style of steering lock. The smaller i can make the barrel the better and if that bottom part can come off then its happy days!!

Just a thought Billy, get rid of it completely and buy yourself a decent lock and chain, because they are very easy to snap anyway, smaller the easier!!. Apparently its all to do with levers and fulcrums (dont ask me I hated physics with a passion, all that maths business)

you can't seperate the ingition switch as the electrics are part of the stearing lock. if you want a new ignition lock thats smaller i normally sell 4 wire gp100 jobbies for chops as there simple to wire in and mount.
here one on ebay but more then i sell them for.

Billy - Greg did away with the ignition switch all together iirc. Looks kinda neat.

Funny you should say that marty, ive got a remote start up feature on this new fangdangled alarm that ive fitted. My plans were to ditch the ignition all together but its been a bastard to wire up so went off the idea, but im speaking to a guy tonight who's an expert in wiring looms and remote start alarms and he reckons he has got it sussed so fingers crossed.
Am i right in thinking though that once its up and running all the lights etc will run just the same as they would if fired off the key???

Right ive spoken to the main man and he's pretty confident that he has got the problem solved and it makes sense. However the most important figgin page in the haynes manual, the trx wiring diagram, has gone missing!!!!
Anyone know of anywhere online where you can view the wiring diagram in colour please, otherwise im knackered.

weird as it sounds, if you remote mount a start mechanism, many thiefs will over look it and go to the next bike.. How can you hot wire start it if they cant find the ignition wire !
Leave the lock and barrel on there, but pull the 2 wires that kick the starter motor over, and mount them somewhere of your choosing.. OR you can set up a remote if you are electronically savvy. Such as a reciever that will do it via a alarm (like you have).
So if they turn the key, they unlock the steering, but it WONT start.. Never tried it, but heard its possible to do.. I think its very possible aswell.
