Tight front bearings

I took my front bearings out for a little (unnecessary) check the other day. When driving the last bearing back into its seat the "bearing-bearing spacer-bearing" unit became very tight. Actually I couldn't spin the bearing by hand at all.
Do anyone know if this is loosening up by it selves when mounted and the bike beeing used?

i would not use it in that condition,,, the front bearings are going to get very hot ,,not good ,,did you fit new bearings ? are they any thicker ? the spacer should not be a very tight but it should have no movement side to side ,, if you did use the old bearings they are probably fecked as driving them out usually wrecks them

PS, wheel bearings have a nasty habit of catastrophic failure if they are not happy please dont take chances with them

I used the old ones.
Guess I'll have a set of new bearings coming up then....

After what I understand then, you should not drive the bearing fully down the seating on the hub?
More like driving it until the spacer tube is close to tight fit and the bearings still spins freely?

Exactly right ... expanding on my original post, you can wallop the first race in without fear, but use kid-gloves on the second one. Mine's been fine for 3k miles now...

yeah, you've gotta have enough space for inner hub spacer tube to float about a bit. Had this problem before and had to find a piece of reo rod and grind a slight step in it so I was able to gently tap the inner race of the opposite bearing to make everything smooth and free again.
