Wasn't sure what title to give this so I will try explain a bit better.
I am "attempting" to mount FZR400 double headlights into an after market TRX fairing but the 4 headlight mounts are missing. I have used the FZR fairing frame but it looks like a bit of a mission to fabricate mounts & fibreglass them to the fairing so I was wondering if just bolting the light assembly to the frame and relying on the mirror bolts, headstock bolts & the 2 brackets on the side of the frame alone would be strong enough to support the fairing ? Is there any reason why the headlight needs to bolt through the frame onto the fairing ? Worst thing I see happening is the fairing moves around a teeny weeny bit in relationship to the lights whilst on the move ?

What do you exactly mean with headstock bolts?
As far as I know, the fairing is mounted (besides the 4 bolts round the headlight) at the mirrors and the mountings on each side on the frame. Especially the last ones are not very rigid, so I'd agree with Phuk.

FYI: I know someone who also received an after market piece without the moutings, he send it back and got a good one (with the mounts in it)!

I wouldn't fancy just relying on the bits you've mentioned. I'd imagine the mounts at the headlight provide the bulk of the support for the weight of the fairing and the other mounting points are simply to stop the sticky-out bits flapping about in the breeze.

just remember it will need to stay put in a 130mph wind ,,,there will be a lot of force trying to rip it from its mountings at that speed ,, be careful and go over the top with the mountings , as a minimum i would have a similar setup to std

You're all right, think I was in denial as I've arsed about with this fairing/headlight assembly for way too long already & still only just started really. What's the old saying about the devil making work for idle hands ?
Not even sure I like the look now I can see it for real.

Still need to fill in the gap between the fairing & lights so it looks like I made a bit of an effort.

Only bit of cutting & welding I had to do was for the mirror stays so far but bracket for the 2 headstock/frame bolts is a few inches short now so more bodging to come. Is it worth it ?

Q. What is the purpose of the conversion/modification?

A. It looks better than the stock headlight?

B. Improves lighting (not difficult on the TRX!!)?

C. Both?

Based on which answer you select will let you know whether its been worth all the effort or not!

Personally I like the cafe racer look with one light on the left or a couple of small projector lamps mounted one above the other. I'm toying with HID conversion for mine if I can find a sensibly priced kit that is!! Answer B would be my selection for the quiz above!

Well I was hoping for a bit of A & B really so my answer has to be C.
Had another look tonight & the FZR frame has brackets for front indicators which the TRX doesn't so this will def' give it some extra support as they are a very snug fit. Decided to space the lights forwards a bit to lessen the gap between lights & fairing slightly and I only just noticed tonight that the bracket on the FZR light frame is central where the TRX one is off set so more messing to come. Begining to wish I hadn't started this now as I was hoping the FZR lights would be a bit smaller than they are. All I keep seeing when I look at it is ZXR750. Oh well it could be worse, I could have spent my Saturday night out getting drunk with my mates... . hang on a minute ????

Did you start with an FZR headlight frame or the TRX one? I think it'll look good when it's done

Thank you Kayla, if it doesn't look good it wont be through lack of effort.
I bought the lights thinking I "might" be able to use the TRX frame but didn't realise how big the FZR400 lights were (5" each) so then bought the FZR frame to go with. At least this way I still have all my standard bits intact to bolt back on if I need to.
Not sure if I should build the gap between the 2 lights until they have a hole each to shine out of (like the model in your picture) or leave it a bit short so there is one big hole like this one ?

The reason I asked about the headlight frame was Brock's selling a spare one (I think). It might be possible to cut n shut an FZR one with a TRX one- cut the FZR headlight mounts off and weld (or bolt) them onto a cut down TRX headlight frame. Round headlights look really cool though. I'm considering a single light endurance fairing for mine.

Yeah I was toying with the idea of havin Brocks frame off him for that very reason but I only need about 4 inches of it (bit that bolts to the headstock) so think I will just lash something up instead. Should be interesting.

I like that twin headlight look and i think if you glass in some recesses it will look better than flush mounting them. Here's what i did with a FZR 400 headlight with the glass removed and recesses fibreglassed in.

I like the twin headlight look as well. If you want something different .....

I had to hack about my fairing mounts and make brackets for lights etc but it was worth it in the end

Keep getting bull-nosed shark when I look at the last one ? No offence. (leathers are an excellent fit BTW )
Looks like a lot of work guys, don't the fairings get a bit heavy with all the extra fibreglass added ?
I will post some more pictures of my progress (as long as they're not boring folks to death ?) but this might all need moving to the "mods & upgrades" section then ?
