I have just fitted a Hid Headlight that i purchased off of the Bay. It is all plug in and has a small ballast resistor and works the headlight but now the Engine wont turn over when press the starter button. Has anyone a clue as to what i have done.

I have checked the connections that i may have disturbed with a continuity tester and they all test OK so i am a loss as to what may have packed up. I have checked and tested the fuses in the fuse box and the main fuse on the Starter Solenoid and they are all OK so i am stumped.

So far living up to my id as OFD ( Old, Fat and Daft)

Try putting it back to how it was....

If I recall correctly there's nothing to cause a failure like you've described short of a main fuse..

Are you using a telescoping Hi-Lo bulb? could the switching relay have caused a short and blown the main fuse..?

Unplug and check(reconnect if ok),the connector block on the starter relay,it`s next to the flasher unit and similar in size to a cigarette packet.It`s held in place by a rubber mounting just in front of the battery tray.Pay particular attention to the terminals in the plug,rot sets into them and they can break.
Might just be a coincidental thing,worth trying anyway.I take it you`ve checked that the battery voltage hasn`t dropped too low?

well i run 2 hid,s in the hornet fairing and no problems ,, first check battery volts are you getting 12.4 or more ? if not its flat,, is the solenoid clicking ? ,, don't try and start the bike with the lights on ,, is it a h4 telescoping bulb ? are you running it though a relay ? ,,,Ive give you enough to check with your meter so off you go and report back,, and don't worry Ive done loads of hid,s now with no problems apart from dodgy chinese soldering and crappy connectors they are not a bad product the last one i bought i got for £1 with 2 ballast,s and 2 bulbs but the post was £29 and its been perfect so far,, its in my trx evo

You haven't accidently knocked the kill switch? by any chance?

It doesn't have an immobiliser fitted does it?

The light is made for a TRX I presume, and did you disconnect the battery before fitting, If so and I'm sure you reconnected it!! check the earth is good, other than that I think verything else has been covered.

Right. Back from the garage having found the following :

It is a telescoping bulb and i have checked the other ideas out but still no joy.

There is no clicking from the Solenoid when i press the starter button so i have shorted the Blue/White wire (from the Starter button) direct to the Negative terminal and it fired up.
So does this indicate a knackered solenoid if so was it just bad luck that it went when i started doing this or will i blow up another one if its something else.

By the way the lights work when it was running and it is very bright, cant wait for the dark nights to come back, NOT !!!

have a look at the fuse on the solenoid i think it should be 30 amp with a spare one tucked in the same unit ,, sounds like you fused somthing when you did the HID conversion

I have checked all the fuses and they are OK so i am stuck.

check if you are getting power to the solenoid when you push the start button ,, if not it could be the start button ,,download the manual and check for power were it should be ,,start at the battery and work your way through the system , it could be a faulty side stand switch , starter relay , are you getting the neutral light on , there's a switch on the clutch as well ,, but there is NO way of remotely diagnosing this problem you will have to work your way though the system with your meter ,, get a bikey mate round two heads are better , or take to a dealer , good luck , is there any one on here near you that can help ?

There is no clicking from the Solenoid when i press the starter button so i have shorted the Blue/White wire (from the Starter button) direct to the Negative terminal and it fired up.

if the engine turns when you short the blue wire to ground, then the solenoid must be coming in as that is what that wire controls, I can only think (as Steve said) it's the start switch on the bars. If the stop switch was open, the engine would not turn even if you shorted the blue/wht wire to ground. The only thing that you are replacing when shorting the blue/wht wire to ground is the start switch.

However this info courtesy of Haynes so take with large pinch of salt.
