Rear shock body

The shock itself is anodised ally yes ? So if I polish it up nicely it will inevitably go furry, dull & corrode yes ? What can I do to prevent this before it goes off to be rebuilt or even whilst it's in use on the bike ? Don't wanna paint it now I spent so much time polishin.

Lime blocks are the norm for protecting polished alloy but I do happen to know that acrylic polymer sealants now get used a lot too.
it`s like using wax over a polished painted surface,helps to seal the shine from attack by further oxidisation.Oxidisation is the aging process that pretty much everything suffers from in one way or another in the presence of oxygen,even the cels of living tissue!
Aluminium alloys are protected by their own natural layer of oxidisation,if it wasn`t there the material would deteriorate quickly through more extreme oxidisation.

Nice one Geoff. All I've got to hand are a few tins of cellulose clear lacquer which will probably peel off as soon as I look at it.
Would this polymer stuff be the same as the acrylic resin used in the process of making carbon fibre or glass fibre components ?

It`s a wax/liquid polymer that basically `seals` and protects the item coated/waxed from oxidisation,it`s not a coating that hardens as such(like a resin/varnish).

AHHH so wax stops the ageing proccess..mmmm..so those people that tie their partner to the bed and drip hot candlewax all over them are just trying to slow the aging process down OHHH OK ... I think it nearly was called cod-finger but they deleted those scenes before it went public. Another option was gold-member (later stolen by Mike Myers). There were plans to do a collaboration further down the line (bit like alien vs predator) which was due to be called... . . .
