Don't F******G believe it. I tried to remove the discs from the wheels last night and managed to sheer 3 on the front and 3 on the rear (I haven't even bothered to try the last ones on the back wheel yet). This was after giving them a good soak with WD40 and putting a bit of heat on them . Now I dont know whether to try drilling them out, take the wheels to a local engineer (god knows how much that will cost, any ideas?) or bin them and buy something on fleabay! What do you think??

Have the heads come off completely or just the holes rounded off ? Once the 6mm alan key starts to slip you have nothing to lose from hammering a bigger bit in the hole. Not alan key but either a T-45 torx bit or a multi spline M8 bit can't remember which, hammered all the way in. Big socket & ratchet on it & a sharp jolt from your palm or a rubber mallet. No use if the heads have snapped off obviously but I managed to free off 3 of the 6 rear bolts with rounded holes in this way without heat so got to be worth a try.

Nasty! They are made of cheese though.

The key is to have a really good fitting allen socket, tapped into the bolt, and try to tighten it a bit first before undoing it, and also give the bolt a little whack with a hammer first too, but thats no good now if they've snapped: stabledoor, horse, bolted etc..

When I snapped one, there was enough of a stub to grip with molegrips, after a good soak with 3-1 oil (I find its better than WD40) but maybe I was lucky.

Otherwise yep, its drills, heat etc.

Aren't those secured with locktite? At least they are supposed to. So I'd go with the already mentioned things as good tools, tightening a bit first and a bit of heat.

All of them have sheared flush with the wheel . I'm thinking of having a go at drilling them part way, winding in a tap and trying to wind them right through rather than out as the bolts seem to be corroded to bugger on the small section that protudes out the back of the wheel (if you get my drift). All of them moved a bit prior to sheering.

Ouch! Can't you grind the corroded ends off?
Well, since they're flush, now you have to drill anyway...

I use "snap-on" easyouts, but you really need to drill dead centre and use the biggest one you can without breaking through the thread.

As already said, they are made of cheese, have a look at not replacing them with originals as well, try stainless steel.

On another forum that I frequent the mechanical guru's warn against using stainless steel bolts on the brake discs because they work harden and snap.There was a lot of technical proof produced at the time to support this so I would be wary of using stainless steel bolts.

I had all 18 of mine shear when I took my discs off to have the wheels painted. I drilled all of mine out and re-tapped the holes again.

Time consuming job, but a good result at the end.

All 18, Jeez that's a bitch. I tried drilling one of the bolts out and completely F***k it up (I was in a bad bad mood when I tried it so didn't give it enough thought) The only way to retrieve the wheel now would be to fill the bolt hole with ally weld and re drill and tap it. I live is Kent which is good as I'm only 20mins from Brands (was there last night doing an evening trackday on the TRX)
