Blue spot anti chatter plates

Heres one for you all. Do you think it is safe to run blue spot calipers without the anti chatter plate (this is the sprung steel plate that sits on top of the pads and is retained by the single pad pin).
Are they only there to stop pad squeal and chatter or do you think they are more important to the operation of the brake than that.
You may have seen my post in the wanted section for a pair of these as the blue spots I bought of Flea bay didn't have them. Not a problem I thought until I found out they are £15 each from Yamaha.
