Float hight

Can anyone tell me what the proper float hight is for the TRX, mine was set at about 10mm form the gasket face to the lowest part of the float, have tried 14mm and the bike is now running like a pig, manuals use fuel gauge which I dont have

any suggestions gladly accepted

I think something`s definately not right with your install, did you contact Factory Pro to check that the needles you got were the right ones?

I took the carbs off and noticed that the choke mech had been jamming on, I freed that off and tried it with the float hight at 15mm from face of carb it was still running like a pig - really rich, wouldnt rev out, kept banging and poping and occaisionally puffing out blackish smoke. The dyno jet needles were set with the circlip at the top groove so I'm wondering if someone set it up with the choke slightly sticking on? Might try it with needle in middle position. Meannwhile got really paranoid and checked valve clearances, most were at the lowest setting but a couple of exhaust valves had clearance of 0.2mm so need some shims - 2 off 165's Any one know where I can get some? My local Yamaha shop had no spares quoted me two week delivery on shims!

Am now seriously pissed off

any suggestions glady received as I am running out of ideas / patience

Try EvilBay, search for Yamaha valve shims.
Those plastic choke needles also have a nasty habit of wearing too, mine were actually notched!
My local Yam dealer is pretty good but then i know them well and can actually get aroung their side of the counter and look at the fiches myself.
You REALLY want the FCR41`s, carb problems fade away to a distant memory.

Sorry to be a bit of a bore about this, but I am finding it difficult to get 15mm from the face of the carberettor float bowl to the lowest point of the float - I seem to be bending the tab way past what looks right and there is not a lot of float movement. Am I doing something wrong??

I seem to remember that you do indeed have to `persuade` the tang somewhat.

Somewhere in amongst all those threads is a Factory Pro image or two showing what/how to measure etc, I know, I posted it.
