Starter button

Post by abautista » Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:46 am

I've been having some trouble lately with the button: with the key turned to "on", gearbox in neutral, sidestand up I press the button and usually nothing happens.
I have to turn the handlebars from side to side and keep tapping the starter button until the motor starts cranking. The spot is usually a bit to the left from centre.

Is this a common problem?
I'll have some time to look at the bike this weekend, and need ideas.
Should I just take apart the RHS switch assembly and start from there? I like working with mechanics, but not too keen on the electric bits

not a common problem - no!

sounds as if a wire is breaking down- as you say, start at switch and work your way down

Yep, gotta be a connection issue if its only cured by a wiggle on the bars.

Either turning the bars 'pushes' a loose connection in the switch inself back together or there's a wire trapped around the headstock area (unlikely).

As said, start at the switch cos that the easy end to work on! Failing that, get the tank off and have a gander.
