chain snapped

Started the bike .was a bit rough putting her into 1st at tickover and chain snapped clean thru.do i need to buy a new chain only or is it better to buy chain/sprockets set???

Bl**dy hell, never heard of that before! You must have dumped the clutch some?
Ok, well have you ascertained if the chain snapped at the joining link/split link?
Checking sprockets is simple, the top of each tooth should be flat with small chamfers to either side, the teeth should not be hooked over in the direction of travel either.
Visual inspection is usually good enough.
If you have the chain see how much you can flex it in an arc with the links facing you, any more than a 30 to 40 degree deflection and it`s fooked, alternatively pull at the links to ascertain free play in the pins and rollers.Was the chain at it`s maximum adjustment?
