What are my options if my HT leads have been cut half way along and I dont have the bits with the pulg caps on?

Dave are you asking how to join and lengthen them, or to change the leads completeley?

The leads have been snipped about 3 inches from the small grey barrel-things bolted to the frame (the coils?) so have no plug caps.

I'm not good with bike electrics so wanted to know if I can just get new leads with plug caps from somewhere and attach them into the coils or is it a sealed unit or what??

Or maybe I look to get a couple of second hand ones with HT leads and plug caps like KW has in his closet..

. Try Taylor leads with screw in caps, can't remember how the originals are held in. Maybe just sealant? Aftermarket coils available as well, do a search.

depends if the coils are sealed or not to determine if you can just replace the leads. you use'd to be able to buy inline connectors, if not try different ht caps to see if you can make the difference up other than that it may be second hands coils or new ones

Probably not a lot of help, but in the olden days you bought the plug caps and they just screwed into the end of the lead.
They had a screw inside of the outer covering that screwed into the middle of the lead where the hot bit lived.

Ekoja, that was what we had to do to get them running in the rain in the 70's, they all came supplied with metal spark plug caps, shorted at the mearest hint of moisture, but gave a pretty display arcing to anything lol.

If what`s left of the HT leads are the standard copper core you can indeed still buy in-line joining pieces.Basically a insulated/hard plastic barrel with a self tapping thread inside at either end, many now have a built in suppressor too.
To make sure no moisture gets in fill the barrel at each end with silicon and while still wet screw the coupling to the plug/HT lead and leave to set.
NGK caps can then be attached by another short length of HT lead and the same joining process carried out again.
I`ve used coils with just and inch or so of HT lead on them using in-line barrel connectors, it all works fine if done correctly.
Halfords or good motor factors should stock the in-line barrels.

I can bring the coils off my bike down with me on Friday if you like
