Hi, I have noticed hi pitched noise, may be best described as a whistle more than a whine in the first three gears, may be in forth and fifth but can't hear at speed, which I think has been there since I bought the bike three weeks ago, bike has done (36000 Km). Gears change well. Thought I would ask if this is a characteristic of Rexes or not. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks Tony

Hi Tony, have a look through past posts and you will see that this is a TRX characteristic and that it isnt an indication of wear or anything being wrong with the box. Some Trx's (many, maybe most) have this gear whine in the first three gears , particularly noticable in third, which I find quite useful as I then know Im in third. I had previously stripped my engine in order to chase this noise and found the gearbox cluster to be in immmaculate order, as was everything else in the engine (minimal wear).
The noise will not create or have been created by wear so, unless the oil from your next oil change contains scrapnel ,my advice would be to appreciate the gear whine as being just another endearing characteristic of your TRX........ a brilliant little machine.

The best solution to the gear whine problem is to fit some loud cans so you can't hear it.
