The searcher am I,oil me up baby!

G'day,greetings.

I have taken sage advice and searched these holy scriptures for sound wisdom as to checking my oil.
I still have a few questions that have not been totally answered,...now be nice!

1.Diesel oil,what the? This was mentioned as a viable alternative. If so what wieght?
any comments please.
2. I am currently using Motul 5100 10w50,would this be considered the correct/appropiate oil?
(I do not have a manual or workshop manual,and the www has not been definitive)
3.I ran my bike for 10 minutes and then checked the sight glass for the oil level straight away,yes? Or do I wait a few minutes?
and adjusted accordingly,yes?

I seem to be getting false readings,but then I am dyslectic with early onset dementia and I forget,er what did you say?
back again...now i think i've overfilled it,buger, bugger, and sod it!

Run the bike until all the radiator/coolant hoses are warm, make sure it`s as level as you can get in, like on a paddock stand or similar, then look at the level in the oil tank sight glass.
There are two lines scribed on the casing around the glass, one is lower level, the other upper level.Simply stop the engine, unscrew the filler cap and top up with oil to as near to the top mark as you can and that`s it.
10w 50 is fine if you`re in a `hotter` climate than Europe but for over here in the UK 10w 40 is a better choice, semi synthetic is fine for the TRX too, although fully synthetic is obviously better if the motor`s been tuned or you simply like to spend more money than is necessary on your bikes engine oil.

The diesel oil issue is one of it being less prone to burning in the same quantities as the regular semi-synths and multigrades, I`ve never gone down that route myself but my TRX isn`t much of a `drinker`.
I think folk simply used semi-synth turbo diesel oils in the same grades, ie:

10w40
15w50
20w50 etc.

It won`t do a TRX any harm to try it for an oilchange period I suppose, it`s up to yourself Reddog.

Dont use diesel oil bro unless your TRX is one of the rare ones made by John Deere: the clue is in the name!!

use 10w40 semi-synth

use cheap oil and change it often (2-3,000 miles)

10 minute warm up, stop it, hold it upright and check sightglass

I have used oil in my bike that is blended specifically for diesels, but it's rating also would indicate that using it in petrol vehicles is ok.
I have been using it ever since I have owned the bike (coming up 5 years now).
It never was "a drinker" and still does not use any more than a 20mm between oil changes.(5000ks)

I say this as a generalisation, I do not want to enter into a deep and meaningful on this subject.

If you hit the search there has been volumes written on the subject, in fact it would be up there with War and Peace.

Motul semi syth is fine and is what all dealers will put in at service intervals here in oz.
The full workshop manual is available for download on this site.
When i overfill my bike with oil i use a syringe with a bit of hose to extract the excess.

Thanks everyone, I reckon I have it sorted now.
I just got back from a mates bikie hangout,you know where all the knobs/er excuse me,the blokes wear western clobber
and look all mean and tough...well they could use diesel oil as there bikes are definate tractor material!
I gotta say I felt like a black man at a Klu Klux Clan meeting,they still hate japanese bikes 60 years after the war,what wankers.
I am now going to make up a rising sun sticker for my trixy,out and proud eh...do you think there jealous that we can get around corners and actually go looking for them?
I declined there kind offer of sitting at the back of the pack on a ride devoid of corners...c'mon why ride at all,they should all buy horses!

FWIW I would steer clear of diesel oil as it pretty aggressive detergents compared to petrol engine stuff. Another choice is Penrite do a very nice 10w50 semi-syth for Gas powered cars that they recommend for bikes with wet clutches. Check their website for HPR Gas 10.

I went to a party at one of those as you put it klu klux klan meetings and must have caught something... Found another good use for those aggressive detergents in desiel oil tho
