digital speedo prob

Post by edengreylag » Sat Oct 30, 2010 7:04 am

Fitted it up.Most connections working .I have tried wrapping the rpm wire round the plug cable and it reads a pulse so thats good it read nothing off the plus or minus on the coil ..I'll do it tightly 2morrow.But the prob is that i was advised to connect the neutral wire onto the sidestand switch!!!! I cut into the side stand wires(there are two in the cable sheath) up under the seat and tried both wires that run inside the cable. One illuminates nothing.the other lights up the neutral but it stays on even when you put the bike in gear.It must be just earthing the connection not actually working as it should.Any help greatly appreciated.

You need to connect it to one of the neutral switch wires, I`m wracking my brain to remember just where the switch is but from memory it`s down the left side of the motor, close to the gearbox output shaft/front sprocket.
You could look at the wiring diagram to ascertain the colour of the wire, again from memory it`s light blue or green.

just checked the on line manual. The neutral switch seems to be above the sidestand switch.I was heading outside in an hour once the light comes in to check its location on the bike but i see from a post on here its INSIDE the engine behind gear selector lever you have to remove the sprocket arghhhhhh!!!!.I'll try and trace the wire along the frame as it seems to run parallell to the sidestand switch and both sit side by side.I already know where the sidestand wires run so fingers crossed i'll find this one too

I`ve had a look at the wiring diagram, the wire is indeed sky/light blue.
BUT.....................
I believe the neutral switch works by EARTHING, so the bulb/led in the speedo unit requires a live ignition feed to it and it becomes illuminated by the neutral switch making earth.
