FZ1 Top Clamp??

Post by schmiffee » Thu Jan 20, 2011 12:49 pm

This question is to those out there that own or have access to an 08 FZ1 that they may be able to take dimensions from it for me....

I am wanting to add a more upright position to my TRX. It has the r1 forks, clipons, wheel, etc at the moment, but I was thinking of adding a set of flat bars. Now I have a graves top clamp was am not keen on drilling that one out, but was wondering if a top clamp off a 2008 FZ1 (USD fork model) would fit. To do this I need to know if the forks are the same diameter (I have the blue/gold spot forks), and if they are is the distace between each fork leg the same between the models (as I have the r1 lower clamp installed) - or would I be better off installing an FZ1 lower clamp at the same time??

I have called yamaha, but they are unable to give me dimensions as they don't have them either - the guy actually recommended asking on forums (guess they know where the REAL knowledge is  )

Anything else I may have missed would be greatly appreciated - I have taken clearance into account but as I am custom streetfightering, most things can be worked around.

Anyway, hope you guys'n'gals may be able to help.
Understeer - when you hit the fence with the front of the bike.
Oversteer - when you hit the fence with the rear of the bike.
Horsepower - how fast you hit the fence.
Torque - how far you take the fence with you.

Dunno the answer, but what I do is nip down a good big second-hand bike shop with a tape measure and some calipers and find the bike I want and take some measurements, or just take sizes off random bikes, whatevers there, to see what might work.

Absolutely, I do the same.
Tape measure, calipers, steel rules, string and scissors, the engineers toolkit!
