Rear wheel seems unstable

This handling thing is scary.Front felt like it had a flat last week at 65mph and that scared me shitless.Bike veers to the right ,well seems to move almost sideways at low and high speed but very noticeable at 20-30mph.Nearly came off turning right at roundabout coz of back end trying to creep up past me.I have a new r6 shocker fited with kaylas adapter and i have not adjusted settings at all since buying it off e-bay.Could it be the rear r6 shocker needing adjusted?? could this really effect handling at low speeds on a straight road??The front wheel feels like its runing on a rim not a tyre at all at speed.Alignment may need done but this r6 shocker ,can it be making the bike drift about and be a pure bitch if settings are all off?? the bike just doesnt sem to want to corner at all but wants to keep going in a straight line even though steering is very light

the sideways motion could be the rear wheel out of alignment, however i'd be on checking wheel bearings and similar consumables too!

I would go through a check-list:

1. Tyre pressures correct front and back
2. Front forks: set all adjustments (comp, rebound) to middle settings.
3. Rear shock: again set to middle setting on everything.
4. Rear wheel allignment: is it in the middle of the swingarm?
5. forks: are they square in the yokes, not twisted?
6. Frame allignment: do you know the history, has the bike had a shunt?

Thats the easy stuff. Afterwards you're into checking head bearings, wheel bearings, head stem nut torque setting, fork oil level etc.

Also check your chain tension, if it is to tight it can give you that effect,(Ask me how I know) . Maybe not.

Also check how much fork is sticking through the top yokes, it should be 18mm or more, mine were flush with the top clamp when I bought it & the handling was

Firstly i'd check wheel allignment as mentioned above - this is doubtful though as you said you haven't actually changed anything?

Secondly - don't know what suspension you're running but check the rebound action front & rear (particularly rear i'd say from your description) if the rebound action is too much i.e: just a very slow return of the unit it will basically give the same feeling as seized or no suspension when under load (suspension will not have time to recover from the last bump/ripple you last hit before you've hit the next?) Does the suspension feel particularly harsh? Or is it just a bugger to turn?

Just read your post again & see you're using a later r6 unit - above still applies - have you tried factory settings as a starting point for adjustment?

its just back from the garage a month back gettin cam chain done and front sprocket put on along with digi speedo.the so called mechanic had the back wheel loose to do front sprocket.but i've only done 100 miles since then coz of snowy roads.it was MOT'd too at the time.suspension feels spongy ,a lot of play. it feels like,at speed, the bike does not want to turn like it would upset the geometry to even try.but in saying that the steering is not tight at all.you just feel cautious about leaning or making tight corners as it fights against yopu to do its own thing.gotta be alignment as chain is 45-50mm play. me an my bud will check alignment today and tyre pressures.

Thats a bit (no, a lot) slack, 20/30 mm is recommended by Mr Yamaha.

My bet...18psi in rear tyre and 22 in the front

120/60/r17 front with 25psi 160/60/17 rear with bout the same .what should the pressures be .also front forks.the screw adjustment on top of forks.i can turn it click by click either way to infinity without forcing it!!! surely forks are buggered???

I think I used 33 front and 36 rear in my TRX- it sounds like yours are too low

The standard forks only have 4 rebound settings and you can click right the way around so don't worry unduly

Tyres should be as Kayla sez.

Fork adjustment goes click, click, click ..............pause........... click click etc iirc. watch out for the pause, then click and count through to next time it pauses, then click back half the ammount.

i will try the fork clickin 2morrow got a couple of geese to pluck and cook lol.Man the hunter etc.thanks for this it really takes the worry out of stressing too much about the bike.its finally on the road looking great and i'm not wanting to get spooked off riding because of poorly adjusted suspension and tyres etc.I took it up to asdas earlier and put the right amount of air into the tyres . 2morrow i'll take the bike a run and see how she fairs.Nice an easy though it gave me a bit of a scare at that roundabout.

fixed the poor running lack of power.ht lead sparking .is anyone else having a hard time with slippy roads?? i'm slippin a bout all over the place when i accelerate or turn corners the way i would normally.Suspension seems better now i've adjusted the r6 shocker and front forks .
