Gotta real 'pulsing' on the front brake, not just through the lever but on/off feel to the braking especially at slow speeds. '97 model, Standard calipers, original discs as far as I can tell. Any ideas? I can ride around it, but I reckon I should prolly be looking for new discs - any recommendations on what to fit?

Certainly sounds like warped discs to me, especially if the floating buttons are stiff (are the standard discs floating?). I just put on some ABM (German) discs and they are brilliant, heaps of power, light, competitive price. A good option in my opinion.

Yep - sounds like warped disks to me as well.

When you push the bike around (or turn the front wheel on a stand) can you hear / see it rubbing on the pads in certain places?

The on / off feel is wholly attributable to the standard master cylider (and R6 mc off ebay for £15 or so will give you loads more feel).

As for disks, depends on how much you want to spend. Ebay seem to have plenty of discs (new and 2nd hand) or if you are feeling flush some Braking wavy discs are great.

Phuk does the front brake level from the TRX fit?

The TRX lever can be made to fit but needs modding. Best of waiting for an m/c with the lever included.

I think the front wheel bearings are also worth a check before investing in new discs.

I fitted my lever to a 2003 R1 master w/o any problem.
I believe one of my discs are warped, at high speeds going strait there's no problem, but when turning the front wobbles a lot, when braking to a stop the braking isn't continuos. but there's no pulsing on the lever...

OK, that makes sense.

Still reckon it sounds like warped discs but as the guys said, check your bearings first.

Are you sure your lever was from a trx originally?. Because I found TRX levers fitted to R1 master cyls, won't let the pressure bleed off.So after a couple of uses the brakes just stay on.Basically it won't let the master cylinder piston return far enough, and needs the operating plunger to be shortened.Has anyone else found this? or am I delusional.?

I had exactly the same experience. After fitting the blue-spots I went for a testride. Luckily enough I had a spanner with me, so I could open the air bleedings to let the pressure off. It's hard to see any significant difference even when compared side to side, but I had to file off quite a lot before the TRX handle worked as it should.

I've got an R6 mc on my bike and didn't even try and fit the lever as it came with one but I'm fairly sure that they are different.

Not looked at the R1 mc but I guess it is not much different?

Wicked - you are the first person I have heard of who has fitted a TRX lever to an R1 mc without needing to do any mods.

I shortened the (thing) that touches the disc that regulates the lever position (small hand), so didn't mess with the master cilinder piston rest position but the brakes operate as soon as i press the lever. the R1 master cilinder didn't come with lever so couldn't compare the 2 levers, but the brakes work fine and don't stay pressed even after good effort.

That is why it works ,because you did the necessary mods.
